Into The West - A TNT Miniseries

By TheAlamoFilm.com

Sometime shortly before Disney went into production on The Alamo, TNT Networks was interested in doing a short miniseries about the Texas Revolution with some snippets of the Mexican/American War. However, something clicked in their heads and they decided to put it on hold.

After The Alamo was released, TNT watched the box office closely to see whether their series would be a success - they thought that if The Alamo would go on to do great at the box office, they could have somewhat of a potential winner.

Unfortunately, it was not the case. We all know that The Alamo did not do well at the box office despite its critical acclaim by several top tier critics such as Ebert, Leonard Maltin, etc. TNT quickly dropped their 'Texas' project and decided to take on a different angle: the story of the American West as told by Native American Indians and Anglo settlers in search of the American dream.

While the series, titled "Into the West", will broadcast in 6 story-telling episodes and have nothing to do with the Alamo (despite the novelization of the film, which does INCLUDE an Alamo episode.), it nonetheless shall be an interesting series of television. The series aims to showcase a grand-scale feel of the West through the eyes of many that were affected and we'll see it through a recreation of the Battle of Little Bighorn, Buffalo hunts, the expansion of the American railroad, Wounded Knee and much more.
