Wonderful Hotels Near the Alamo

By TheAlamoFilm.com

When planning a trip to the Alamo, most people want to get as close to the attraction as they can when it comes to lodging. This eliminates the hassle of having to rent a car or hail a cab. And, luckily, there are quite a few hotels within walking distance of the Alamo. While these hotels may not be as luxurious as some of the higher end lodging in San Antonio, they offer more than enough amenities as well as a fabulous location that can’t be beat!

Many people choose to make their San Antonio vacations all about history. By staying at one of the following two hotels, you can add a little bit of historical content to your lodging. The Menger Hotel was originally built in 1859 and is only 100 yards from the Alamo. With an outdoor swimming pool, exercise room, and three different dining options, the Menger offers more than enough to make your stay there amazing. Oh, and did I mention, the Menger is said to be haunted! Another historical hotel very near the Alamo is the Crockett Hotel, which was built in 1909. Interestingly, the land where the hotel sits was once part of the battle of the Alamo, which is only steps away. The Crockett provides guests with a free continental breakfast, usually well appreciated after a morning swim in the outdoor pool.

In San Antonio, there is also a host of your normal “chain” hotels. These lodging options provide both comfort and a delightful location very near the Alamo. The Days Inn at Alamo Riverwalk is only one block away from the historic landmark and is a great place for any family to stay. With features like an outdoor swimming pool, free wireless internet, and a free daybreak breakfast, every member of the family will have a great time staying at this Days Inn. There is also the Holiday Inn San Antonio Riverwalk, which is only 0.4 miles from the Alamo, easily within walking distance. With an outdoor swimming pool and exercise room, as well as a rental car desk and plenty of activities for children, families often choose to stay at this Holiday Inn. Another notable hotel near the Alamo is the Hampton Inn Downtown Riverwalk area, which is only 0.1 miles away. A swimming pool, fitness center, and business center give children and adults plenty to do when they aren’t touring the sites of San Antonio.

There are also a couple of hotels very near the Alamo that can’t quite be called “chain” hotels, but aren’t completely locally run. The Residence Inn Alamo Plaza Downtown is one of these. Less than 0.2 miles from the world famous landmark, you can literally reach the Alamo in a few steps. With a complimentary buffet breakfast and a fitness room, you can’t go wrong staying at this Residence Inn. Next is the Red Roof Inn Downtown, which provides a great location at an incredible value. Only 3 blocks from the Alamo, this hotel features a host of family favorites, like an outdoor pool, WiFi, and a pet friendly property.

Finally, we have those hotels that are owned and operated by local San Antonians, who know how to treat customers, with delightful Southern charm. The Lone Star Palace is only steps from the Alamo and has recently been renovated and added to the Hyatt hotel family. Plan you next even here, or simply stay in a luxurious penthouse with your family during your San Antonio vacation. The River Inn Motel is another locally owned lodging option that is a great place to stay if you plan to spend most of the time seeing the sites. Why pay a lot of money for a place where you are only going to sleep? While the River Inn Motel doesn’t have much to offer in amenities, it does offer a comfortable place to sleep only one mile from the Alamo. Finally we come the Emily Morgan Hotel, one of the more luxurious on this list. With a location only steps away from the Alamo, this hotel offers a library, restaurant and bar, and a therapeutic swimming pool area. The modern design reflects a new age in San Antonio, where hip meets historical.

And there you have it, folks! Ten hotels that are well within walking distance of the Alamo. All of these lodging options offer great amenities at great prices, and are wonderful places to stay with your entire family.
